One week after International Women's Day, Stroom invited people to gather in Iliada Charalambous' installation Commoning (un)Common Ground to commemorate women's struggles towards liberation.
The evening started with the performance Resistant Readings, an ongoing collaborative project by Iliada Charalambous and Sophie Mak-Schram. It is a collective reading of letters of solidarity exchanged between Zapatista women and the Kurdish women's movement. The performance engages with the notion of ‘herstory' - an alternative retelling of history - and reflects on the gathering of a Zapatista delegation with Kurdish women in Eindhoven in October 2022.
It is not coincidental that this event was organised on the day of the provincial elections. With Commoning (un)Common Ground, Charalambous explores the potential for direct democracy, and proposes a neighbourhood assembly - a way for a group of people to make decisions about their collective ways of living.
This event was part of the exhibition Positions: Elsewheres.
